View DXF files with GdPicture.NET and DocuVieware SDK
Our developers are currently working on implementing new formats (among many other things), and with the release of the DXF format with version 14.0.60, we wanted to let you know a bit more about this vector format.
What is DXF?
AutoCAD DXF (Drawing Interchange Format, or Drawing Exchange Format) is a CAD data file format developed by Autodesk for enabling data interoperability between AutoCAD and other programs.
Like other CAD data file formats, DXF is a vector format, meaning that it is scalable and with a good resolution no matter the size of the file.
And as all CAD formats, the DXF format is suitable for the following industries:
- manufacturing,
- architecture,
- graphic design,
- game making,
- and any company with engineering needs.
The DXF format is open-source, on the contrary to the DWG (DraWinG) format for instance, which is the native file format for AutoCAD. Very similar to DXF, DWG is used for storing 2D and 3D design data and metadata, but it is proprietary.
If you wish to know more about the DXF specifications, you can consult the reference file here.
DXF Support in GdPicture.NET/DocuVieware
Since version 14.0.60, GdPicture.NET – and by extension, DocuVieware – includes DXF in its list of supported formats.
You can also see it in our DocuVieware demo:
